Grobler Acknowledges DStv Premiership Title Race Is Finished

Thursday, SuperSport United striker Bradley Grobler has admitted that the race for the DStv Premiership title is all but over, with Mamelodi Sundowns leading the table by a 21 point margin with just two games left to play.

Coming into the 2023 season, SuperSport had high hopes of dethroning their Tshwane rivals, however, a run of inconsistent results in recent weeks has seen them fall 23 points behind Sundowns, with Matsatsantsa having two games in hand.

Speaking to the Siya crew, Grobler was honest enough to admit that there is no way Sundowns can be caught before the end of the season. “If we are being completely honest with each other, I think it’s going to be extremely difficult for any team to catch them. We have to be honest, they are on a different level. Next season it will be a different story, but for now I can’t see any team catching them,” he said.

At this stage, SuperSport are fighting to finish in position two or three, which would guarantee them continental football next season. Grobler believes that players are also fighting to secure their contracts for next season, so there is no reason for them to start slacking, even though Sundowns are running away with the title.

“We can think that Sundowns have won the league, but there is still a lot more to play for. SuperSport, we are an ambitious club,” he concluded.
