Orlando Pirates are weighing up a potential return for promising winger
Gomolemo Khoto following an encouraging loan spell at Orbit College FC, with
the 22-year-old catching the attention of the Buccaneers’ technical team.
The attacker, affectionately nicknamed “Giggs” by teammates and supporters
after Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs, has continued his development
with the Mswenko Boys this season, having originally joined Pirates from the
same club in 2022.
Despite signing with the Soweto giants three years ago, Khoto remained with
the North West-based side to gain valuable game time—first during their
Motsepe Foundation Championship days and now following their promotion to
the Betway Premiership.
Sources close to the situation indicate that the winger has put his hand up
for a possible return to Orlando, with Pirates believed to be monitoring his
progress closely as they assess their squad options ahead of next season.
Khoto’s growth over the past campaign has not gone unnoticed. Under the
guidance of Orbit head coach Pogiso Makhoye, the talented wide man has
matured significantly, becoming an integral part of the team’s attacking
structure.
So far this season, Khoto has featured in 14 top-flight matches for Orbit,
continuing to build on the promise he showed during the club’s Championship
campaign. His pace, work rate, and willingness to take on defenders have
made him a regular attacking outlet for the newly promoted side, with nine
matches still remaining before the season concludes.
While early indications suggested the player could remain at Orbit next
season to continue his development, Pirates are believed to be keen on
taking a closer look at him during the upcoming pre-season period.
The Buccaneers are expected to reshape parts of their squad as they prepare
for the new campaign under head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, who is known for
giving opportunities to young and emerging players. With Ouaddou favouring
energetic, attack-minded football and showing a willingness to work with
developing talent, Khoto could find himself in a favourable position should
he return to Pirates to stake a claim for first-team football.
