The Siya crew understands that Motsepe Foundation Championship side
Lerumo Lions are on the verge of completing a major double signing, with
former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Phakamani Mahlambi and ex-Orlando Pirates
midfielder Nkanyiso Zungu both believed to be closing in on deals with the
club.
As previously reported by the Siya crew, Mahlambi has been training with the
second-tier outfit in recent weeks as he looked to regain match sharpness
following a prolonged period without a club. His presence at the club
naturally fueled speculation about a potential move, with other teams in the
division also believed to be monitoring his situation closely.
However, according to insiders, Lerumo have acted decisively to secure the
services of the 28-year-old, whose career has taken him to high-profile
destinations including Bidvest Wits and Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
“From what we understand, the deal with Mahlambi is as good as done,” a
source close to the situation told the Siya crew. “The agreement has been
reached and it’s now just about finalising the remaining details, but
everything points to him joining Lerumo.”
Mahlambi’s arrival would represent a significant step in his bid to
resurrect a career that promised so much in his early years but has been
hampered by inconsistency and time on the sidelines.
Meanwhile, the club are also making significant headway in their pursuit of
Zungu, who has likewise been training with the side as he plots his return
to competitive football. The midfielder has been unattached since parting
ways with Magesi FC at the end of last year.
“It’s the same situation with Zungu,” the source added. “The club is closing
in on both players. They’ve been working with the team and things are
progressing well regarding their possible deals.”
If finalized, the double swoop would represent a significant statement of
intent from Lerumo Lions as they look to bolster their promotion ambitions
with proven top-flight quality.
