Cape Town City Reportedly Nets R20 Million from Triple Player Sale

Motsepe Foundation Championship side Cape Town City are believed to have
generated approximately R20 million from the sale of three players to
top-flight clubs, according to a source with knowledge of the deals.

The transfers involve striker Jody Ah Shene moving to Mamelodi Sundowns,
midfielder Shakeel April joining Stellenbosch FC, and forward Tshegofatso
Nyama heading to Magesi FC.

An insider explained the context behind the sales: “These were three players
who haven’t featured prominently this season. Ah Shene and April were
involved with the national Under-20 side at the AFCON and World Cup, which
forced the club to find solutions without them. This allowed City to
capitalise on their potential and market value.”

While the deals are reported to be advanced, Magesi FC PRO Abel Rakoma
provided a cautious update regarding Nyama’s transfer, using a relatable
analogy: “The deal is not yet through. It’s like you have released your
daughter for lobola, but I haven’t yet paid. On your side, it’s done; on my
side, I haven’t received. Yes, we are interested in the player, but let’s
get it done first.”

The reported windfall comes as Cape Town City prepare for a crucial Motsepe
Foundation Championship fixture this afternoon. They face Casric Stars FC in
a top-of-the-table clash, with second place taking on fourth at Solomon
Mahlangu Stadium in Mpumalanga (15:30 kickoff).
