Sundowns Seek Redemption in Crucial Champions League Rematch

Mamelodi Sundowns enter a pivotal CAF Champions League group stage match
determined to rectify the errors that cost them a home victory last week,
aiming to avoid a rare early stumble in the competition.

For a club accustomed to consistent progression beyond the group stages, an
early exit is unthinkable. Coach Miguel Cardoso has focused his squad on
correcting the defensive mistakes that led to a 2-2 draw with Sudan’s Al
Hilal at Loftus Versfeld—a result widely seen as two points dropped.

The teams now meet again in Rwanda for the reverse fixture. Sundowns travel
with renewed confidence following a midweek Betway Premiership victory over
Sekhukhune United. A win tonight would open a crucial gap at the top of
Group C. Currently, Sundowns lead the group on five points, tied with Al
Hilal but ahead on goal difference.

“The competition progresses, and every match becomes more important, with
fewer opportunities to collect points,” Cardoso stated in Rwanda. “We played
well enough at home to earn more, but we were punished for our mistakes.
This is a second opportunity in a fantastic stadium, and we are excited to
play here.”

Utility player Thapelo Morena echoed the focus on improvement. “We know the
importance of home victories. Unfortunately, two errors gifted them two
goals. We’ve addressed it, performed well defensively on Tuesday, and must
now ensure we don’t repeat those mistakes while converting our chances.”

The stage is set for a tense encounter as Sundowns look to reassert their
continental authority and take a commanding step toward the knockout rounds.
