Orlando Pirates captain Nkosinathi Sibisi has dismissed comparisons to
past seasons where Mamelodi Sundowns pulled away with the league title,
insisting this year’s script is unwritten.
The Buccaneers, trailing Sundowns in the Betway Premiership, were asked if
they were watching the “same movie” that typically ends with their rivals as
champions—a phrase famously used by former Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane.
“I haven’t seen this movie before,” Sibisi stated firmly during a media
briefing at Rand Stadium on Wednesday. “It’s a fresh start. It’s a fresh
year. We’re going for everything. We don’t have to hide it. Let’s see if the
movie is the same.”
The defender, alongside coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, was speaking ahead of the
team’s upcoming league match against Magesi FC. He emphasized that winning
every available trophy has been the club’s declared ambition from the start
of the season.
“We’re a big institution—we don’t have to hide that we are going for
everything,” a confident Sibisi said. He reminded journalists that this goal
was announced in their first press conference of the campaign.
While acknowledging the setback of exiting the CAF Champions League, Sibisi
highlighted that two major domestic trophies remain within reach. “The other
tournaments we managed to secure. So there’s still two more to play for—not
only the Championship, but the Nedbank Cup as well. For us, it’s just to
give our all and see where it goes.”
