As Mamelodi Sundowns build a familiar lead at the top of the Betway
Premiership, a classic phrase from their former coach Pitso Mosimane comes
to mind: “I have seen this movie before.” This “movie” has often ended with
Sundowns lifting the trophy.
Now, with the league season resuming after AFCON and Sundowns ahead of
Orlando Pirates, Bucs captain Nkosinathi Sibisi was asked if this is the
same predictable script.
“I haven’t seen this movie before,” Sibisi declared confidently.
Speaking alongside coach Abdeslam Ouaddou at Rand Stadium on Wednesday ahead
of their match against Magesi FC, the centre-back emphasized a fresh
perspective.
“It’s a fresh start. It’s a fresh year. We’re going for everything. We don’t
have to hide it,” he stated. “Let’s see if the movie is the same.”
Sibisi stressed that the club’s ambition to compete for every trophy was
declared from the very beginning of the season. “It’s such a big
institution… we don’t have to hide it, to say that we are going for
everything,” he said.
The 30-year-old defender reminded journalists that this intention was voiced
in their first press conference. While acknowledging they “came short in the
Champions League,” he pointed out that other tournaments remain within
reach.
“Unfortunately we came short in the Champions League, but the
other tournaments we managed to secure. So there’s still two more to play
for… not only the Championship, there’s still the Nedbank Cup as well. So
for us it’s just to give our all and see where it goes,” Sibisi concluded,
framing the final stretch as a direct challenge to Sundowns’ long-running
feature film.
