As the 2025/26 CAF Champions League group stage reaches its halfway
point, the battle for continental supremacy is heating up—and so is the
contest for the tournament’s Golden Boot.
Defending champions Pyramids FC and reigning Confederation Cup winners RS
Berkane are neck-and-neck in Group A, each on 7 points, with a win in their
next fixture securing passage to the knockout rounds. Record champions Al
Ahly sit atop their group, joined by frontrunners Mamelodi Sundowns and
Stade Malien in commanding their respective sections.
On the scoring front, the race remains exceptionally close. The
competition’s tally includes goals from the preliminary rounds, and several
players have already staked their claim. According to data from
Transfermarkt, only players with three or more goals are featured in the
graphic above.
Leading the pack is Al Ahly’s Egyptian international Mahmoud Hassan
‘Trezeguet’, whose impactful campaign includes five goals. Hot on his heels
is a group of prolific attackers, including Mamelodi Sundowns’ Portuguese
forward Nuno Santos, who has netted three times in five appearances—two of
which came in a decisive opening group win over Saint-Eloi Lupopo.
Last season’s top scorer, Pyramids FC’s Fiston Mayele, remains in contention
with three goals in seven games and will be aiming to retain his crown
should his team advance.
With the group stage entering its decisive phase, every goal
grows in significance. Whether a seasoned champion like Trezeguet can
maintain his lead, or a challenger like Santos or Mayele can surge ahead,
promises to be a compelling subplot to the tournament’s quest for
continental glory.
