Kaizer Chiefs have moved decisively to secure their defensive
cornerstone, extending captain and first-choice goalkeeper Brandon
Petersen’s contract until June 2027.
According to SABC Sport, the Soweto giants have triggered an option in
Petersen’s deal following a series of commanding performances this season.
The 31-year-old has cemented himself as the undisputed number one at
Naturena, delivering exceptional reliability between the posts.
Petersen’s form has been a revelation, keeping an outstanding 10 clean
sheets in the club’s 14 league matches to date. This remarkable feat sets a
new benchmark, representing the most clean sheets by a Chiefs goalkeeper in
the first half of a 30-game PSL season. His contribution has been
fundamental to the team’s defensive solidity and their current competitive
standing.
The contract extension sends a clear signal of intent from the club’s
hierarchy. With Chiefs having recently ended their trophy drought, securing
a dependable and influential leader like Petersen is viewed as crucial for
sustaining and building upon that success. His presence provides a stable
platform for the team’s ambitions to challenge for further silverware.
By locking down their captain until 2027, Kaizer Chiefs have
ensured that one of their most valuable assets remains at the very heart of
their project for the foreseeable future.
