Stellenbosch FC is finalizing a loan move for Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Asekho Tiwani for the remainder of the 2025/26 season. The deal comes as a direct replacement for Turan Manafov, who has returned to Azerbaijan on loan with Gabala FC.
The 20-year-old Tiwani, who captains South Africa’s U20 side, has yet to make an appearance for Sundowns this season. His path to the first team at Chloorkop is further blocked by the presence of several established and emerging left-backs, including Aubrey Modiba, Divine Lunga, Fawaaz Basadien, and Thato Sibiya—who recently made his CAF Champions League debut.
A source close to the player confirmed the move, stating, “Ja, he’s going to Stellenbosch on loan; that’s true. The main aim is for him to go overseas. He’s now managed by an overseas agent, and if he’s playing regularly, it’s going to help him.” Tiwani had previously attracted interest from European clubs such as Romania’s FCSB and Moldova’s FC Sheriff.
At Stellenbosch, Tiwani will compete for the left-back position with Omega Mdaka. He becomes the club’s fourth signing of the January transfer window, following Tshegofatso Mabasa, Kobamelo Kodisang, and Mosa Lebusa. When contacted for comment, Stellenbosch FC’s Head of Media and Stakeholder Relations, Liam Bekker, declined, citing the club’s policy of not responding to transfer speculation.
