Mofokeng’s Rising Value Poses Transfer Challenge for Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates midfielder Relebohile Mofokeng finds himself in a
bittersweet position as his market valuation climbs, potentially
complicating his path to a move abroad.

Despite already proving himself over several seasons at Pirates, the
21-year-old has watched as players like Mohau Nkota and Mbekezeli Mbokazi
secured overseas moves ahead of him. A key reason, according to sources, is
that the Buccaneers value him highly and have set a significant price
tag—one that interested foreign clubs have so far been unwilling to meet.

Mofokeng’s market value, as estimated by Transfermarkt, has now risen from
€1.5 million to €2 million (approximately R37.9 million), making him Orlando
Pirates’ most valuable asset. This places him among the elite in the PSL, on
par with Mamelodi Sundowns star Teboho Mokoena, whose own high valuation has
also been a hurdle for potential suitors.

In the latest PSL rankings, Mofokeng sits sixth overall, behind Sundowns
players Nuno Santos, Tashreeq Matthews, Marcelo Allende, and Mokoena. Only
Iqraam Rayners is valued higher, at €3 million.

It is worth noting that actual transfer fees are often much higher than
Transfermarkt’s estimates, which are not based on real-time demand. For now,
Mofokeng’s rising stock reflects his talent—but also presents a growing
obstacle for any club looking to lure him away from Houghton.
