United at Chloorkop: Cardoso Dismisses Exit Rumours, Focused on Sundowns’ Goals

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has brushed aside widespread
speculation about his possible departure, stating he is unaffected by
rumours he considers baseless.

Recent weeks have been filled with talk of Cardoso’s exit and a potential
return for former coach Pitso Mosimane. However, the club’s continued
support for Cardoso was evident as he oversaw the team’s 2-0 victory over
Orbit College on Monday, a result that propelled Sundowns to the top of the
Betway Premiership table.

Speaking after the match, Cardoso criticised the nature of modern
speculation, suggesting social media and blogs amplify uninformed opinions.
“People discuss things they have absolutely no idea about, giving echo to
things that don’t even exist,” he said.

He emphasised the internal strength and unity at Sundowns. “This club is
ruled from the inside to the outside, not the other way around,” Cardoso
stated, highlighting robust leadership, a strong technical team, and a
united dressing room. “The doors of Chloorkop are so strong that those kinds
of things don’t enter.”

Cardoso also addressed a recent social media post that had fuelled rumours.
He had shared lyrics from David Bowie—”I don’t know where I’m going from
here, but I promise it won’t be boring”—on the anniversary of the musician’s
death. He clarified this was solely a tribute to an artist he admires,
unrelated to his job.

“Besides football, there are other things I like, and one of them is music,”
he explained. “Why would I write ’10 years’ on a photo of David Bowie? What
does that have to do with my job? It’s so clear, so simple.”

Closing the matter, Cardoso was direct about his future: “Don’t worry about
my future. My future does not depend on football. My future depends on many
other things.”

The pressure remains, however, with fans demanding both the domestic league
title and the CAF Champions League trophy.
