Orlando Pirates have confirmed the departure of striker Tshegofatso
Mabasa, who has joined Stellenbosch FC on loan for the remainder of the
season.
The 29-year-old forward, who finished as the Buccaneers’ top scorer in
each of the last two campaigns, saw his opportunities limited under head
coach Abdeslam Ouaddou this season. The loan move will provide him with
the chance to regain form and consistent playing time.
Mabasa becomes Stellenbosch’s second January signing, following the
acquisition of defender Wayde Jooste. His move comes shortly after Pirates
completed the signing of midfielder Andre De Jong from the same Cape
Winelands club.
Stellenbosch had also been linked with a move for Kaizer Chiefs forward
Tashreeq Morris, but have instead secured the services of the experienced
Mabasa as they seek to bolster their attacking options.
For a Stellenbosch side currently battling near the foot of the table, the
arrival of a proven goalscorer like Mabasa represents a significant boost
as they aim to secure their top-flight status and climb the league
standings.
