Following the departure of Andre De Jong to Orlando Pirates, Stellenbosch
FC are urgently seeking experienced reinforcements for their attack.
According to PSLSA sources, the club has identified a potential target:
Sekhukhune United striker Wonderboy Makhubu, currently on loan at Magesi
FC.
Stellenbosch’s search for a forward in the January transfer window has led
them to consider a swap deal for the 29-year-old Makhubu. A source close
to the negotiations revealed that the move could be part of a broader
transaction involving Stellenbosch midfielder Thato Khiba moving in the
opposite direction.
“Thato (Khiba) might go to Sekhukhune United, then Makhubu to
Stellenbosch. Nothing is official yet, but it could be finalised today,”
the insider stated.
Makhubu, who joined Sekhukhune in 2022 after stints with Baroka FC and the
University of Pretoria, has reignited his form during his loan spell at
Magesi. This season, he has made 12 appearances, scoring once and adding
an assist. His most impactful period came during the 2024/25 campaign,
where his goals and assists were crucial for Magesi’s league standing and
cup performances.
The proposed deal appears to be a pivot from an initial plan.
“Stellenbosch initially wanted [Lesiba] Mosadi, but Sekhukhune suggested
trading Khiba for Makhubu. This could happen today,” added the source.
Despite attempts to obtain comment, Stellenbosch FC had not responded at
the time of publication.
