Despite earlier reports linking Marumo Gallants defender Mpho Chabatsane
with a high-profile switch to Orlando Pirates, talks of an imminent transfer
have been dismissed by a source close to the situation.
The Siya crew had noted interest in the 23-year-old left-back as far back as
December. However, no concrete deal has materialized with any club, despite
acknowledged attention from several Betway Premiership sides.
“Still the same, there is interest from both teams but they haven’t engaged
the club regarding a contract or offer. Let’s see in the coming weeks. But
as it stands, his representatives haven’t talked or gotten an offer for the
boy,” revealed an insider.
The source further clarified the current landscape, stating, “There’s no
talk, there’s no Pirates guys. The last time a team showed interest, it was
Stellenbosch FC.”
The Vaal-born player, a former Vaal University of Technology (VUT) student,
has made 13 league appearances for Gallants this season. His performances
since joining the club in the 2024/25 campaign have drawn notice, following
his previous stint with JDR Stars in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
While interest from other Gauteng-based PSL clubs persists, no formal
negotiations are currently underway.
