Mokwena to Chiefs? Former Colleague Questions Timing of Potential Return

As speculation continues to link Rulani Mokwena with the vacant Kaizer
Chiefs managerial position, a former colleague has cast doubt on whether
such a move would be in the coach’s best interest.

Mokwena, currently at the helm of Algerian top-flight side MC Alger, is
understood to be on a shortlist of candidates as Chiefs prepare a potential
end-of-season technical review. His successful stint at Mamelodi Sundowns
and deep knowledge of South African football make him an attractive
candidate for the Soweto giants.

Allan Freese, the former Wydad Athletic Club Technical Director who has
worked with Mokwena, believes the coach undoubtedly has the pedigree for the
high-pressure role. “He knows the culture of Chiefs, he knows what Chiefs is
all about. So he can handle Chiefs. I don’t have a doubt,” Freese stated in
an interview with PSLSA.

However, Freese strongly questioned the logic of Mokwena leaving a stable
and promising position abroad for the uncertainty at Naturena. “Why would
you leave the work you are enjoying to come to Chiefs?” he asked. “Why must
he leave then come back now while he is doing well? Maybe the timing is not
right.”

Mokwena is making a positive impression at MC Alger, and there have been no
indications of formal talks with Kaizer Chiefs. For now, the link remains
purely speculative, with Freese’s comments highlighting the significant
career decision the in-demand coach would face if an offer materialized.
