Sekhukhune United have strengthened their squad with the signing of
former Bafana Bafana midfielder Lebogang Phiri ahead of the second half of
the season.
The club secured the versatile 31-year-old on a free transfer, marking his
first professional stint in South African football. Phiri returns home
after a successful 13-year career in Europe, which included spells in
Denmark, France, and Turkey.
CEO Jonas Malatji expressed his delight at the acquisition, stating: “We
are thrilled to welcome Lebogang, a player of incredible talent and vast
international experience. His addition will be vital as we push to finish
the season strongly.”
Phiri, a product of the Bidvest Wits academy, moved directly to Europe
early in his career, most notably playing 109 matches for Danish side
Brondby IF. He now joins Sekhukhune United—affectionately known as Babina
Noko—where he will make his domestic league debut.
An emotional Phiri said: “After years of sacrifice and dedication abroad,
the doors to home have reopened. Thank you. It’s time to reintroduce
myself.”
The club warmly welcomed the player, nicknamed “General,” and looks
forward to a successful partnership.
