MC Alger manager Rulani Mokwena has openly expressed his admiration for
Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng, while conceding that the player’s
European ambitions make a transfer highly unlikely.
The 21-year-old South African attacker, who featured for Bafana Bafana at
the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, has drawn significant interest from the
Algerian club and its supporters. However, Mokwena clarified that despite
mutual appreciation, a deal is not on the horizon.
“I know the fans want Mofokeng. I know this, and believe me, I want Mofokeng
as well,” Mokwena stated at a press conference.
He went on to explain the primary obstacle, revealing, “I can tell you the
player has had many, many offers and has set his sights on going to Europe…
the player has no ambitions to play in Africa. So it’s not a lack of
ambition from the [MC Alger] president.”
While a move for Mofokeng appears improbable, MC Alger have demonstrated
their transfer market ambition under Mokwena by securing the signing of
Chahreddine Boukholda. The new recruit praised Mokwena’s clear vision and
personal role in convincing him to join the project.
On the pitch, Mokwena’s team continues to excel. A dramatic stoppage-time
winner from Zinedine Ferhat secured a 1-0 victory over CS Constantine on
Monday, solidifying their position at the summit of the Algerian Ligue
Professionnelle 1. They now sit 11 points clear at the top with 35 points
from 14 matches.
