Sundowns Midfielder Maseko Set for Loan Move as Agent Confirms January Talks

Thapelo Maseko’s future at Mamelodi Sundowns appears to be taking a
temporary turn, with his agent confirming that a loan move is being actively
explored during the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old midfielder, who joined Sundowns from SuperSport United with
high expectations, has struggled for consistent minutes this season. In
response, his representative, Glyn Binkin, has revealed that discussions
with the club are underway to secure a loan departure.

“We have numerous options for Thapelo to go out on loan in January, which we
are discussing with Sundowns,” Binkin told PSLSA. “He is a promising young
talent who needs game time. If that’s not available at Sundowns—a situation
we understand and respect—then it’s in everyone’s interest, especially the
player’s, to get that opportunity elsewhere. His career has unfortunately
stagnated over the past two seasons.”

Maseko has made only seven appearances across all competitions this
campaign, with just five coming in the DStv Premiership.

Despite his limited club involvement, the Sebokeng-born player possesses a
strong pedigree. He was named the inaugural African Football League (AFL)
Player of the Tournament two seasons ago, has earned seven caps for Bafana
Bafana, and was part of South Africa’s bronze-medal-winning squad at the
2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he also scored.

A loan move now could provide the talented midfielder with the regular
football needed to revitalize his development and regain his career
momentum.
