Aubrey Modiba Earns Continental Accolade, Named in AFCON 2025 Group Stage Best XI

Aubrey Modiba’s rising reputation in African football has received
significant endorsement after the Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana
defender was selected in the official Group Stage Best XI for AFCON 2025.

The prestigious French publication L’Équipe placed Modiba alongside
continental stars such as Riyad Mahrez, Victor Osimhen, and Bryan Mbeumo—a
testament to the South African left-back’s influential performances during
the tournament’s opening phase in Morocco.

While sharing the honour with some of Africa’s biggest names, Modiba’s
inclusion reflects consistent reliability over flashy individual moments.
Throughout the group stage, the 28-year-old started all three of Bafana
Bafana’s matches under coach Hugo Broos, providing composed and disciplined
presence on the left flank.

In a tightly contested tournament where small details make the difference,
Modiba stood out for his defensive stability, intelligent positioning, and
measured support in attack. His performances were defined by focus and
control, rarely being dispossessed or caught out of position.

Broos’ system relied on tactical balance and structured defence, a
foundation where Modiba excelled. He fulfilled his defensive
responsibilities effectively while also contributing to build-up play,
earning recognition from observers across the continent and beyond.
