Durban City Chairman Narrows Search for New Head Coach, Rules Out Return for Middendorp

Durban City Chairman Farouk Kadodia has provided an exclusive update on
the club’s pursuit of a new head coach, confirming a shortlist is in place
and aiming for a final decision next week.

This follows the dismissal of Gavin Hunt at the end of November after a
defeat to Orlando Pirates. Assistant Pitso Dladla managed the team on an
interim basis, closing out the year with a 3-0 victory over Orbit College.

Speculation has linked numerous coaches to the vacant position, including
Romain Folz, Rafal Janas, Mihail Marian, Bernd Storck, Thiago Mendes Larghi,
Pablo Machi, Zdravko Logarušić, Heiko Herrlich, and Edward Iordanescu.

Kadodia confirmed to the Siya crew that the process is advancing. “We have a
shortlist and by next week we should finalize,” he stated.

He specifically addressed rumors of a return for former coach Ernst
Middendorp, who served as Technical Director for the first three months of
the season, firmly ruling him out. “No, definitely not,” Kadodia said.
“There is somebody we’re targeting and hopefully that should come to
completion by next week.”

Kadodia also revealed the club intends to fill the Technical Director role,
which has been vacant since Middendorp’s short-term contract ended. “There
would be a Technical Director; by January we will have that finalized,” he
concluded.
