“Gunning for Gold”: Motale Backs Broos’ Bafana for AFCON Glory

Former Bafana Bafana defender Edward “Magents” Motale believes the
national team is aiming for the ultimate prize at this year’s Africa Cup of
Nations, driven by a coaching staff determined to improve on their previous
bronze-medal finish.

Speaking at the Bafana send-off event at FNB Stadium, the Orlando Pirates
legend expressed confidence in the preparation led by head coach Hugo Broos
and his assistant Helman Mkhalele.

“I think they probably, Hugo Broos and Helman Mkhalele, did their homework
very well, and they did their corrections after the bronze. So, going to
this one, I think they’ll be gunning for gold,” Motale stated.

He emphasized the importance of a strong start to build momentum and
national support. “A win will be a very good start, confidently so. It will
motivate everybody, them and us, the supporters, to wear more of these
jerseys,” he added.

South Africa finds itself in a challenging Group D alongside Angola, Egypt,
and Zimbabwe. Their campaign begins against Angola on December 22, followed
by a crucial clash with Egypt, before concluding the group stage against
Zimbabwe.
