Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana fans have received reassuring news
after national team coach Hugo Broos played down concerns over winger Oswin
Appollis following a friendly win against Ghana.
The 24-year-old, who came on at halftime during Bafana’s 1-0 victory, was
seen limping at full-time, raising alarms ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup
of Nations.
However, Broos quickly moved to allay fears. “It’s not so bad,” the coach
said in a post-match television interview. “He just got a kick on his leg,
and maybe tomorrow he will have a little problem. But it’s okay, it’s
nothing major.”
Appollis, a trusted attacking option for Broos known for his pace and work
rate, is understood to have sustained only a knock. The technical team will
monitor him closely as the squad prepares to depart for Morocco, but early
signs indicate no serious setback.
The match against Ghana was Bafana’s final friendly before their AFCON
campaign. With no more warm-ups scheduled, the focus now shifts fully to
recovery, tactical preparations, and ensuring the entire squad is fit for
their opening Group D match against Angola next Monday.
