Former Premier Soccer League coach Allan Freese believes the co-coaching
arrangement of Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze could prove beneficial for
Kaizer Chiefs, suggesting that their combined vision may steer the club
forward.
In an exclusive interview with PSLSA, Freese commented on the unconventional
setup at Chiefs, where the two former assistants took charge as co-head
coaches following the departure of Nasereddine Nabi.
“I’m not going to interfere in Chiefs’ matters, but this isn’t a new
thing—I’ve seen teams operate with co-coaches before,” said Freese, who has
coached Platinum Stars and Highlands Park. “Sometimes these coaches grow
into head coaching roles through such setups.”
He acknowledged that differing philosophies could arise but expressed
optimism that unity could be found. “Maybe with time, they can find a
solution where both coaches’ ideas are incorporated into one. They can work
together—we just wait and see.”
Since taking over, the duo has overseen an unbeaten run in the league,
offering early signs of stability.
Freese added that such partnerships, when aligned, can yield positive
results. “If two coaches put their minds together, it can produce something
good for the team. It allows them to unify their vision for the betterment
of the club.”
While their long-term roles remain unconfirmed, the early resilience under
Ben Youssef and Kaze has provided a measure of assurance during a period of
transition at Naturena.
