Orlando Pirates remain focused on securing long-term target Thabo
Moloisane, despite recent speculation linking them with Durban City defender
Mfanafuthi Mkhize, according to Siya sources.
The Stellenbosch FC centre-back has been a persistent figure on the
Buccaneers’ recruitment radar. As the club plans for the departure of Bafana
Bafana defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi—who is set to join Chicago Fire after
AFCON—Moloisane is still regarded as a prime defensive option for the
future.
While Pirates are also reportedly closing in on the signing of Stellenbosch
attacking midfielder Andre de Jong, talks concerning Moloisane’s potential
move are understood to remain active, even if a January transfer is not
assured.
Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker has previously acknowledged the likelihood
of losing the dependable defender, praising his professionalism.
“I still think Thabo is in his last year… For me, he should have been the
Defender of the Season last year,” Barker said in August, highlighting
Moloisane’s consistent performances despite the ongoing transfer
speculation.
With Mbokazi having played his final match for Pirates in last weekend’s
Carling Knockout final victory, head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou will rely on
central defenders Nkosinathi Sibisi, Lebone Seema, and Olisa Ndah after the
AFCON break. The defensive ranks are also set to be bolstered by the
returning Thabiso Sesane from injury and the experienced Tapelo Xoki, who is
nearing a comeback following a car accident earlier this season.
