“Same Old Chiefs?” Setlhodi Slams Amakhosi’s Lack of Progress Under New Leadership

The year ended on a flat note for Kaizer Chiefs, finishing fourth in the
Betway Premiership after consecutive goalless draws against Chippa United
and TS Galaxy.

These frustrating stalemates, which followed a commanding 4-1 victory over
Orbit College, underscored the team’s ongoing struggle for consistency,
especially in attack.

With the PSL now on an Africa Cup of Nations break, questions are being
asked about whether the Soweto giants have genuinely improved under the
guidance of coaches Ben Youssef and Kaze. For former goalkeeper and pundit
Setlhodi, the answer is a firm no.

“I don’t see anything, I don’t want to lie to you, I see nothing at all,”
Setlhodi stated bluntly to the Siya crew.

He issued a stark warning, suggesting that based on current performances,
merely finishing in the top eight would now be considered an achievement.

“I hope they finish in the top eight, that is my only hope. If they can
reach the top eight, I would say it’s a good achievement based on the way
they play,” he said. “The way they are performing, it’s going to be tough
because they really don’t know how to score a goal. They just play football
without purpose.”

Setlhodi was scathing in his assessment of the squad, questioning who could
elevate the team’s standards. “Nobody in that Chiefs team I see lifting the
standards. If you look at them, who can bring Chiefs to the level expected?
Nobody, they are all on par. Who is the best player at Chiefs as we speak?”

While acknowledging the team might look slightly better than in previous
seasons, he emphasized that it falls far short of the club’s historic
stature. “They look better, but not to the standard of Chiefs. Here we’re
talking about Chiefs; we don’t want to say ‘at least’ when you talk about
Chiefs. That’s a big team. It’s not the way it should be, not at Chiefs,
man.”
