Pirates Poised to Seal Deal for Stellenbosch Star Andre de Jong

Orlando Pirates are on the verge of securing another significant
signing, with Stellenbosch FC attacker Andre de Jong expected to complete
his move to the Soweto giants this week.

The New Zealand international has informed his current club of his decision
to leave after a compelling offer from the Buccaneers proved irresistible. A
source close to the negotiations revealed that De Jong was straightforward
about the situation, stating, “I spoke to him, and he was very open. He
said, ‘Look, man, I’m leaving – the offer from Pirates was quite tempting.’
He is expected to make the switch to his new club this week.”

Pirates’ determined and persistent pursuit is said to have been a key factor
in advancing the deal. The club made repeated enquiries about the player’s
availability, underscoring their intent to bring him to Orlando as part of
their mid-season reinforcement strategy.

“The fact that Pirates were so persistent in enquiring about his services
made it difficult for Stellenbosch to reject the offer. Also, the
relationship that Pirates has had with Stellies over the years made it even
tougher for the club to turn it down,” the source added.

The existing rapport between the two clubs, built on several smooth
transactions in recent seasons, helped facilitate the process once Pirates
formalized their bid.

This acquisition aligns with the Buccaneers’ broader strategy to bolster
their squad across all departments as they aim to mount a sustained title
challenge. Having already clinched the MTN8 and Carling Knockout trophies
this season, the club is focused on maintaining momentum.

“Pirates are strengthening the side so they can put up a very, very
contested fight against Sundowns in the league race. With the quality they
have now, they are on equal footing with Sundowns to challenge for the
title,” the source concluded.
