Kaizer Chiefs wrapped up their United Kingdom pre-season tour with a
goalless draw against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon.
The result followed a promising 1-1 draw against Premier League side Leeds
United just two days prior, where captain Thulani Mabaso found the net.
Facing a QPR side that featured Bafana Bafana AFCON-bound defender Tylon
Smith in its starting lineup, Chiefs created the clearest chance of the
first half. In the 20th minute, midfielder Matala Makhubo weaved past two
defenders and unleashed a powerful long-range effort that struck the frame
of the goal.
Seeking a breakthrough after a tight first half, coach Arthur Zwane
introduced striker Mpho Khethang for Vicky Mkhawana at the start of the
second period. However, the match settled into a midfield battle with fewer
clear-cut opportunities at either end.
The pattern continued throughout the remainder of the half, with both teams
ultimately sharing the spoils in a competitive but scoreless affair.
Chiefs will now return to South Africa to prepare for the resumption of the
domestic season, where they will resume the defense of their league title
after the festive break.
