Kaizer Chiefs defender Zitha Kwinika has opened up about the club’s
challenging start in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage and shifted focus
to their upcoming Premiership clash against Chippa United.
After making just six appearances last season, Kwinika has become a regular
this campaign, featuring 13 times since the departure of former coach
Nasreddine Nabi.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s league match, the vice-captain discussed his
return to the starting line-up. “I’m happy with my form—I’m getting minutes
and performing at a high level. But what really matters is the team’s
results. When we win, it builds everyone’s confidence,” he said.
Reflecting on their continental campaign, Kwinika acknowledged the slow
start but stressed there is still time to recover. “In CAF, we didn’t get
the results we wanted, but it’s a process. We’ve learned from those games
and are improving. We know we need maximum points to qualify, and we’re
preparing for that.”
Now turning attention back to domestic football, he expects a tough test
against Chippa United in Port Elizabeth. “We’ll need to readjust quickly.
Playing Chippa is never easy—they’re well-structured and can be stubborn
defensively, but we’ve studied them. We know how they play with and without
the ball, and we’re preparing to break them down while staying solid at the
back.”
Kwinika concluded, “It won’t be simple, but we’re ready for the
challenge.”
