Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou expressed his delight with a
2-0 victory over Durban City on Saturday but confirmed his attention has
already shifted to next weekend’s Carling Knockout final.
Goals from Evidence Makgopa and Patrick Maswanganyi secured the win at Moses
Mabhida Stadium, extending the Buccaneers’ lead at the Betway Premiership
summit to three points.
“Yes, of course I’m very happy about the result,” Ouaddou told SuperSport
after the match. “I think we finished the game well, especially in the
second half. I’m very proud of the boys, their bravery, and their fighting
spirit.”
While pleased with the overall performance, the Moroccan tactician
acknowledged a subdued first half. “I cannot say we had a fantastic first
half, but it’s football—I cannot blame them. We made some tactical
adjustments at halftime, and they understood them.”
With the league business successfully concluded for the week, Ouaddou’s
focus is now unequivocal. “We finished well, and I have to check the log,
but I think it’s good for our fans and our club. Now, I want to focus on the
final,” he stated.
“I will congratulate the players and shake their hands, but tonight my focus
is on the final.”
