Nearly six months after his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns, Rivaldo
Coetzee’s journey back to professional football is proving to be an arduous
challenge. Once hailed as one of South Africa’s most talented defenders,
Coetzee is finding his comeback more difficult than anticipated.
While his technical quality was never in doubt during his time at Sundowns,
a persistent struggle with injuries has continually disrupted his career
momentum. Sources indicate the former Ajax Cape Town star is currently
dedicated to a rehabilitation and strengthening program.
His search for a new club recently led him to Sekhukhune United for an
assessment. However, it is understood he suffered a fresh setback during
this trial, which ultimately ended his time training with the team.
At this stage, a return to the pitch seems unlikely before next year. This
timeline presents another hurdle: finding a club willing to sign him as the
season enters its final stages. His representatives will be hoping that,
once he is fully fit, he can finally move beyond the injury woes that have
plagued him.
Coetzee remains a free agent, a status he shares with several other
experienced PSL professionals still seeking contracts, including Thulani
Hlatshwayo, Cole Alexander, Gift Motupa, Wayde Jooste, Thembela Sikhakhane,
and Mduduzi Mdantsane.
