Former Stellenbosch FC defender Ismael Toure is reportedly eager for a
return to the South African top flight, but with one major condition: he
will only consider a move to one of the league’s “big three” – Kaizer
Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, or Mamelodi Sundowns.
This development follows a challenging stint with UAE Pro League side
Baniyas FC. After a high-profile move in July, the Ivorian centre-back’s
time abroad soured, culminating in him being dropped from the first team and
eventually parting ways with the club.
According to a source close to the player, a return to the DStv Premiership
is now a genuine possibility, but strictly on these top-tier terms.
“The chance of him coming back is there,” the source revealed. “If he has to
return, it will have to be for one of the top three teams. He is likely to
consider options that make sense both competitively and financially.”
The move would represent a financial step down from his earnings in the
Gulf, but Toure is said to be prepared for this trade-off in pursuit of
competitive football at the highest level in South Africa.
“From a financial perspective, it won’t be the same… But in his mind, he’s
ready to come back if the opportunity presents itself at Chiefs, Pirates, or
Sundowns,” the source concluded.
Toure’s potential availability is expected to generate significant interest
in the upcoming transfer window. He was a dominant force during his time
with Stellenbosch, making 76 appearances and playing a pivotal role in their
historic 2023 Carling Knockout Cup victory. His reputation as an aerially
dominant and composed defender had previously seen him strongly linked with
Kaizer Chiefs before his move overseas.
While no formal offers are on the table yet, indications are that Toure’s
representatives are actively monitoring the market, setting the stage for a
potential major move in the coming weeks.
