Kaizer Chiefs in Talks to Bring Back Former Captain Patrick Mabedi

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly in discussions to welcome a familiar face
back to Naturena, with former club captain and defender Patrick Mabedi being
lined up for a return in a coaching capacity.

According to insider sources, the Amakhosi hierarchy has been in talks with
the former Malawi international, though his specific role has not yet been
finalized.

“Recently there have been talks between the club’s hierarchy and the former
assistant coach,” a Siya source revealed. “It’s still very early to say in
what capacity they would want to have him at the club right now, but
whatever is going on, it is looking promising… It’s apparently believed to
be in the coaching department.”

This move comes in the wake of the club’s recent separation from head coach
Nasreddine Nabi, which has left a vacancy and a need for experienced
personnel in the technical team.

Mabedi is no stranger to the Kaizer Chiefs setup. He previously served as an
assistant coach at the club between 2017 and 2018 and even stepped in as an
interim manager, demonstrating his understanding of the club’s inner
workings.

His deep familiarity with the Chiefs culture, combined with his recent
experience as the head coach of the Malawi national team, makes him an
attractive candidate to help steer the team through its current transitional
period.

The club was contacted for comment but had not responded by the time of
publication.
