Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Rivaldo Coetzee remains without a club
after a brief training stint with Sekhukhune United failed to result in a
contract.
Coetzee, who was released by Sundowns at the end of last season, had been
assessed by Sekhukhune’s technical team under coach Eric Tinkler. However,
his representative, Mike Makaab, has confirmed that the player is no longer
training with the club due to a minor setback.
“Nothing at the moment. He had a small setback, so he’s back in the gym,”
Makaab told Soccer Laduma.
When asked if the opportunity at Sekhukhune was completely off the table,
Makaab indicated that the door remains open, stating, “Not at all.”
As a free agent, Coetzee is eligible to sign for a new club at any time,
outside of the official transfer window. However, his prolonged period
without a team presents a significant challenge to regaining match fitness
and securing a permanent deal.
The 27-year-old is among a notable group of experienced South African
players still seeking new clubs after being released at the end of the
2023/24 season. This list includes figures such as Ramahlwe Mphahlele,
Thulani Hlatshwayo, and Kwanda Mngonyama.
