Kaizer Chiefs legend Itumeleng Khune has expressed his disappointment
over the expected departure of head coach Nasreddine Nabi, suggesting the
Tunisian tactician was not given enough time to build at the club.
Nabi, who has been absent from the touchline for the last two matches, is
reportedly in negotiations to be released from his contract. This comes
despite him ending the club’s decade-long trophy drought by winning the
Carling Knockout cup in his first season.
Reflecting on the situation, Khune, who has witnessed the entire ten-year
trophy dry spell, voiced his support for the coach. “Yeah, it’s
unfortunate for what is happening,” Khune said. “The coach now came and
broke that curse… I wish they could have given him more time because you
can see he was building a well-oiled machine.”
While acknowledging the business-minded nature of football, Khune
emphasized the positive impact of Nabi’s brief tenure. “Players and
coaches know that they wouldn’t be at the clubs forever,” he added. “But
it’s very important that when you are given an opportunity, you give it
your all. And Coach Nabi did that. In his first season, you won the
silverware and people will forever remember him for that.”
The decision to part ways with Nabi marks a surprising turn for Amakhosi,
who finally tasted success under his leadership but now appear set to
begin another new chapter.
