Mabena’s Return Boosts Amajita Ahead of U20 World Cup

Amajita Teammate Hails Mabena’s Return
Ahead of U20 World Cup

After missing the U20 Africa Cup of
Nations earlier this year through injury, Mamelodi Sundowns youngster
Siyabonga Mabena has received high praise from Amajita teammate Patrick
Autata ahead of the FIFA U20 World Cup.

Mabena was sidelined during the AFCON
tournament in April due to a lengthy layoff but has since returned to
action for Sundowns, where head coach Miguel Cardoso has gradually eased
him back with valuable minutes. His recent form has boosted his confidence
as he prepares for the global showpiece, which kicks off in Chile on
Saturday.

Speaking during Amajita’s official
send-off in Hyde Park, Johannesburg, on Monday, Autata emphasised Mabena’s
importance to the squad, highlighting his versatility and individual
quality.

“We really need a player like him. The
team is glad that he is back,” Autata said.
“He brings a lot of versatility because he can play on the left wing,
the right wing, or even as a number 10. He has individual brilliance but
is also a team player. Some games will be won through moments of
individual magic, and he’s capable of providing that. He’s a wonderful
player, and I’m glad we have him for the World Cup.”

Amajita departed for Chile on Tuesday
afternoon and will open their World Cup campaign against France on Monday.
They will also face the USA and New Caledonia in the group stage.
