Appollis Off the Bench to Keep Pirates Rolling

Betway Premiership

Result: Siwelele FC 0–1 Orlando Pirates
Date: 23 September 2025
Venue: Free State Stadium

Orlando Pirates extended their winning streak in the Betway Premiership to
four matches after securing a narrow 1–0 victory over Siwelele FC in
Bloemfontein on Tuesday night.

Buccaneers head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou made two alterations from the CAF
Champions League clash at the weekend, recalling Patrick Maswanganyi and
Kamogelo Sebelelebele in place of Oswin Appollis and Sipho Mbule.

Siwelele also rang the changes following their defeat to Magesi, with
Keabetswe Khonyane, Aphiwe Baliti, Yandisa Mfolozi, Tebogo Potsane and
Vincent Pule restored to the starting XI. Striker Samir Nurkovic, however,
missed out due to suspension.

The home side carved out the first real chance after 16 minutes when Gape
Moralo’s pinpoint cross found Chibuike Ohizu unmarked in the area, but the
Nigerian forward sent his header wide.

Pirates enjoyed greater possession as the half wore on, though they
struggled to break down a compact Siwelele defence. The hosts nearly
capitalised on a defensive lapse by Lebone Seema, as Pule pounced on the
loose ball, but the winger’s effort was straight at Sipho Chaine in the
Pirates goal.

With the game goalless at halftime, Ouaddou opted for a double
substitution at the restart, introducing Appollis and Cemran Dansin for
Maswanganyi and Thalente Mbatha. The move almost paid off immediately when
Appollis teed up Relebohile Mofokeng, who fired narrowly wide just before
the hour mark.

Siwelele coach Lehlohonolo Seema responded by replacing Pule with former
Kaizer Chiefs winger Christian Saile. Yet, it was Pirates who found the
breakthrough, as substitute Appollis struck with 11 minutes remaining. The
forward latched onto a pass from Evidence Makgopa before firing low into
the bottom corner to net his first league goal of the season and seal all
three points.
