The much-anticipated Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer
Chiefs has officially been rescheduled, marking a significant update for
supporters and stakeholders alike.
Initially set to take place on Saturday, 25 April, confirmation has now been
received that the blockbuster clash will instead be played on Sunday, 26
April.
The change has been made to accommodate the Ultra Music Festival, which will
be taking place at the neighbouring Nasrec Expo Centre, in close proximity
to the FNB Stadium precinct. With both events expected to draw massive
crowds, the decision to move the fixture was taken to ensure smooth
logistical planning, including traffic management, security, and overall fan
experience.
The Soweto Derby remains the biggest fixture on the South African football
calendar, and this latest adjustment is unlikely to dampen the excitement
surrounding the clash. If anything, it adds another layer of anticipation.
Pirates will head into the encounter with confidence, having secured a
commanding 3-0 victory over Chiefs in the first round earlier this season.
That result not only gave the Buccaneers bragging rights but also set the
tone for what has been a strong campaign.
For Chiefs, the rescheduled fixture presents an opportunity for redemption,
with pride and momentum both on the line in one of the fiercest rivalries in
African football.
With the date now confirmed, attention will shift back to preparations on
the pitch, where both teams will look to deliver a spectacle worthy of the
occasion, regardless of when it is played.
