Ekstein Fires AmaZulu to Victory; Pirates Held as Siwelele Claim Draw

There was plenty of drama across the Betway Premiership on Saturday as
AmaZulu secured a hard-fought 2-1 win over Richards Bay, while Orlando
Pirates were held to a 1-1 draw by Siwelele FC in a result that could have
implications at the top of the table.

AmaZulu Edge Coastal Derby

At the 18:00 kick-off in Durban, AmaZulu claimed bragging rights in a
tense coastal derby against Richards Bay. The hosts started brightly, with
Hendrick Ekstein wasting a golden chance in the 10th minute, volleying
over from close range. The pressure eventually told in the 27th minute
when Thabiso Kutumela curled in a superb free-kick to give Usuthu the
lead.

However, Richards Bay hit back just before the break. In the 40th minute,
Barns rose highest to nod home and level matters at 1-1 heading into
halftime.

The second half saw the Natal Rich Boyz dealt a blow when Sikhakhane was
forced off through injury. AmaZulu capitalised on the disrupted momentum,
and in the 82nd minute, Ekstein made amends for his earlier miss with a
fine finish to restore the lead and secure a 2-1 victory for the hosts.

In the other 18:00 clash, Sekhukhune United and Polokwane City played out a
goalless stalemate at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. Despite Sekhukhune coming
out firing after the break—with Mojela firing just wide and Monare seeing a
powerful effort saved—neither side could find a breakthrough.

Pirates Stumble in Title Chase

Earlier in the afternoon, Orlando Pirates missed a chance to apply
pressure in the title race, dropping points in a 1-1 draw with Siwelele FC
at Orlando Stadium.

The visitors stunned the home crowd in the 28th minute when Vincent
Pule—facing his former club—produced a lovely finish from the edge of the
box to put Siwelele ahead. Pirates responded after the break, and in the
51st minute, Tshegofatso Moremi brought the hosts level with a composed
finish.

Despite dominating possession for large spells, Jose Riveiro’s men could
not find a winner, settling for a point that may feel like two dropped in
the context of the title race.

Elsewhere, there were goals aplenty. Magesi FC fought back from two goals
down to secure a 2-2 draw with Chippa United. The Chilli Boys had taken
control through strikes from Konqobe and Ntsundwana, but Magesi responded
through Vandala and Luthuli to snatch a point.

At the other end of the spectrum, Marumo Gallants endured a difficult
afternoon, falling 2-1 to Golden Arrows. The visitors took the lead
through Sede Dion, who netted his 11th goal of the season, before things
went from bad to worse for Gallants when Otladisa was shown a second
yellow card just before halftime. Dion added his second of the game
shortly after the break, and while Agniko pulled one back for the hosts,
it was not enough to spark a comeback.
