KZN Clubs Circle Sekhukhune’s Teenage Shot-Stopper Tsepo Mahauza

A KwaZulu-Natal based Betway Premiership side has set its sights on
promising Sekhukhune United DDC goalkeeper Tsepo Mahauza, with the
18-year-old attracting interest from top-flight clubs following his
impressive displays in the reserve league.

An insider close to the player has revealed to PSLSA that an enquiry has
been lodged from KZN, and the young shot-stopper could soon begin training
with the interested party. Mahauza, who previously trained with Magesi FC
under Owen Da Gama, is now being courted for first-team football rather than
continued development in the Diski Challenge.

“There is interest in the youngster,” the source disclosed. “The teams
interested in him want him for their first teams and not the DDC anymore.
It’s believed that Durban City and Magesi FC are amongst the teams
interested in him. At the moment, we have to wait until next week to figure
out which team will win the race, but the interest is there.”

The insider further revealed that Mahauza had been in excellent form before
suffering an injury, having kept three clean sheets in the DDC for
Sekhukhune United. The setback forced him to take a 10-day recovery period,
but he is expected to return to action on March 21 against Golden Arrows in
the DDC.

“Next week on the 21st March he is expected to be playing against Golden
Arrows in the DDC and the scouts from those teams interested in him will be
there,” the source added. “That could determine which direction his future
takes with the interested clubs.”

The 18-year-old is regarded as one of South Africa’s promising goalkeeping
prospects, with the potential to develop into a future national team player.
