After parting ways with Soweto giants Orlando Pirates, Malian midfielder
Abdoulaye S. Mariko has resurfaced at Orbit College.
Speaking to PSLSA, the club confirmed that the player has joined the
“Mswenko Boys” on a permanent deal.
“Yes, he has indeed signed for us,” Orbit College general manager Matome
Kganakga confirmed. “It’s actually a permanent move. He’s signed with us
until the end of the season, with an option to renew for another season.”
Kganakga elaborated on the circumstances that led to Mariko’s arrival,
explaining, “What happened is, he was on loan at Chippa United (from
Pirates), but he and Pirates terminated their contract after he returned to
them.”
Mariko’s loan stint at Chippa United was cut short, and he was seen training
with Pirates again before making his move to the team based in the North
West. The 23-year-old defensive midfielder, who joined Pirates from Malian
club Djoliba, never made an official appearance for the Buccaneers. However,
he featured twice for the Chilli Boys, playing two minutes against Orbit
College on 16 September and 45 minutes against Pirates on 25 November.
It is important to note that his namesake, Abdoulaye Dine Mariko, an
attacking midfielder, remains on the books at Orlando Pirates.
