Nedbank Cup Clash a Brand-Builder for Gomora, Says Macuphu

Veteran striker Mxolisi Macuphu has framed Gomora United’s Nedbank Cup
last-32 showdown with Mamelodi Sundowns as the perfect stage to elevate the
club’s profile.

The Motsepe Foundation Championship side faces the Tshwane giants at Loftus
Stadium on Wednesday night in a classic David vs. Goliath cup tie, offering
a chance to create unforgettable memories.

For the 37-year-old Macuphu—part of an experienced core including Justice
Chabalala and Samuel Manganyi—the match represents a unique opportunity,
particularly for the team’s younger talents.

“Every player goes into a cup competition wanting to do well. We are going
to the game to win and give it our all,” Macuphu told PSLSA.

“In hindsight, this is an opportunity for some of our youngsters who have
been doing well to get the recognition. This is another point where the
club, in terms of marketing and branding, can be known,” he explained.
“These are the games we need. We needed a draw like Sundowns, so that we
showcase to the whole country what Gomora is made of. In a business sense,
this is the best draw. In a football sense, it’s also the best draw for some
of our players to get the recognition.”

Macuphu acknowledged the scale of the challenge, noting, “We face a very
organised and ambitious team in Mamelodi Sundowns. You’ve got to give them
the respect, but when you go onto the field, you want to win the game.”

Gomora heads into the clash after a goalless league draw with Venda FC on
Friday, while Sundowns are looking to rebound from a CAF Champions League
defeat to Al Hilal.
