Kaizer Chiefs have solidified their position as genuine Betway
Premiership contenders this season, sitting second in the table with 30
points from 15 matches. This marks a dramatic recovery for a side that
failed to finish in the top eight last term.
Following a hard-fought away victory over Marumo Gallants, co-coach Cedric
Kaze highlighted the significant strides made by the team. “You know we take
it game by game,” Kaze told media. “In the previous season, [we had] 32
points after 30 games. Today we are 15 games with 30 points. I feel it’s a
big improvement, but we know there is still big room for improvement to go
and compete every game.”
Kaze emphasized the importance of the gritty win at a difficult venue,
praising his team’s mentality. “It’s a big win away from home on a very
difficult field. We didn’t want to complain about the field or feel sorry
for ourselves. We are a big team. We need to play in every condition… I’m
not quite sure that a lot of teams will win on this field.”
Amakhosi now find themselves in a three-way title race alongside defending
champions Mamelodi Sundowns and Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates, who currently
sit third.
With league momentum building, the focus now shifts to continental
competition. Chiefs will host Zesco United on Sunday in a CAF Confederation
Cup fixture, looking to protect the advantage gained from their first-leg
victory in Ndola, Zambia.
