Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso hailed new signing Khulumani
Ndamane for a commanding debut performance, stating the defender has eased
the pressure of expectation with his display in Tuesday’s 2-0 Premiership
win over Sekhukhune United.
Ndamane was handed his first start since joining the Tshwane giants,
partnering Kegan Johannes in central defence at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The former TS Galaxy player, operating as the left-sided centre-back, looked
assured throughout, contributing to a clean sheet that secured Sundowns’
second consecutive league victory of 2026 and their hold on top spot.
Speaking after the match, Cardoso was effusive in his praise for the
newcomer. “For a young player arriving at Sundowns, to be rest assured and
go on the pitch and show the game that he showed… it was fantastic,” Cardoso
told media. “It puts him in a comfortable position regarding the
expectations people have when a new player plays for the first time. It’s
always good to have a good start.”
The coach also highlighted that Ndamane’s performance was part of a strong
collective effort. “I think his performance was aligned with all the other
ones from the players around. Kegan also made a fantastic game.”
The victory provides a welcome boost for Cardoso amid recent scrutiny,
strengthening the team’s morale as they embark on a crucial CAF Champions
League trip. “Getting a victory today lifts the morale of the team. It gives
energy,” he acknowledged.
Looking ahead, Cardoso emphasized the ongoing challenge of defending their
domestic crown. “This championship will probably be fought until the end in
a very tough way… We just need to be committed in the good moments and in
the ones that are not so good.”
Sundowns now travel to Rwanda, where they will face Sudanese
side Al Hilal in a Group C Champions League fixture on Friday.
