Kaizer Chiefs’ Title Credentials Questioned by Legend Lamola

Kaizer Chiefs’ recent resurgence as Betway Premiership contenders has
sparked debate, with club legend Vusi “Computer” Lamola questioning whether
the current squad possesses the true quality to win the league.

After finishing a disappointing tenth and ninth in the last two seasons, the
Glamour Boys have shown marked improvement under co-coaches Cedric Kaze and
Khalil Ben Youssef this campaign. They currently sit among the title
challengers, bolstered by a narrow 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows to open
the year.

However, Lamola, a revered former midfielder, expressed skepticism about the
team’s championship pedigree. While acknowledging their competitive form, he
believes the squad’s composition is better suited for a top-eight finish
than a title push.

“In terms of the games I’ve seen them play, Chiefs is a title-chasing type
of a team, but the kind of players they have is the kind to secure a
position in the top eight, not chasing titles,” Lamola stated in an
interview with the Siya crew.

He directed his critique toward the club’s recruitment strategy, asking, “So
it’s pointing a finger to the guys who are scouting: what are they looking
for in a player? Do they want players with ability, or do they want players
who will help them sustain a top eight position? It’s that type of a
situation.”

His comments highlight the ongoing scrutiny at Naturena as fans and pundits
alike weigh whether this season’s promising form can translate into a
genuine championship challenge, or if the squad lacks the final pieces for
ultimate glory.
