In a determined push to secure their Betway Premiership status, Orbit
College coach Pogiso Makhoye has confirmed the signing of South Africa’s
under-20 international striker Thabang Mahlangu and provided a positive
update on the trial of experienced midfielder Ben Motshwari.
The rookies are strengthening their squad for a demanding survival battle,
adding Mahlangu from Siwelele FC. The young striker was instrumental in
Amajita’s Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations triumph last year and also featured
at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, bringing valuable high-level
experience.
“Ben is training with us and he is looking sharp. With the experience that
he has, I think he will assist us,” Makhoye said of Motshwari. Regarding
Mahlangu, he added, “We’ve got him to help us and score goals. We are not
going to bring in anyone else.”
These signings follow the earlier arrivals of veteran midfielder Surprise
Ralani and goalkeeper Cyril Chibwe during the transfer window. While
Chibwe’s debut included an error leading to a goal in Monday’s 2-0 loss to
Sundowns, Makhoye defended the decision to recruit the experienced
shot-stopper.
“We signed Chibwe because we needed a goalkeeper with PSL experience,”
Makhoye explained. “It’s unfortunate he committed that error, but he is not
a bad goalkeeper. We have to make sure this team survives relegation.”
Currently 13th in the table and just four points above bottom-placed Chippa
United, Orbit’s survival mission faces an immediate test. Their next match
is a crucial six-pointer against Chippa at Olympia Park this Saturday—a key
opportunity to pick up points in their first home game of 2026.
