Paseka Mako Reflects on Soweto Switch, Eyes Focused Future with Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs defender Paseka Mako has opened up about the emotional
challenge of crossing one of South African football’s greatest divides. The
left-back, who made the high-profile move from Orlando Pirates to their
arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs six months ago, described the transition as
“tough” but insists his focus is now firmly on the future.

Speaking to the media at the Chiefs Village on Monday, Mako acknowledged the
difficulty of switching Soweto giants but emphasized his professional
commitment to his new club.

“Yes, it was tough to move from the other team,” Mako admitted. “But for me,
I’m a professional. I know that I’m playing for a big team, having come from
a big team, so my adjustment hasn’t changed too much. I’m still the same
person I was at my previous club.”

The defender made it clear he is not looking back. “My focus is on Kaizer
Chiefs, and I don’t want to dwell on the past because my main focus is to
help this team go forward,” he stated.

Turning attention to the pitch, Mako said the immediate priority is
Tuesday’s upcoming DStv Premiership clash against Golden Arrows. He
expressed confidence in his team’s preparations while respecting their
opponents.

“Our main focus is tomorrow; we don’t watch the past too much,” he said. “We
have prepared well for this game. I think Arrows is a good team, but we will
do our best.”

Chiefs will be aiming to secure a league double over Arrows, having edged
them 1-0 in the first round of the season.
