Mamelodi Sundowns have moved to retain the services of Zimbabwean
international Divine Lunga, exercising the contract option that will keep
him at Chloorkop for the next two seasons.
Despite limited appearances this campaign, the 28-year-old defender has
proven to be a reliable and versatile option for coach Miguel Cardoso. His
agent, Mike Makaab, confirmed the decision, highlighting Lunga’s value in a
squad competing on multiple fronts.
“Sundowns have exercised their option. He has another two years left,”
Makaab told PSLSA. “I think it’s important… One of the strengths Sundowns
have displayed over the years is strength in depth in most positions, and
Divine plays an important role there.”
Lunga, who recently represented Zimbabwe at the Africa Cup of Nations, has
made eight appearances across all competitions this season. His ability to
perform consistently at left-back and as a left-sided centre-back has
solidified his place in the squad.
His journey stands out at Sundowns, where many returning loanees struggle to
break into the first team. Lunga, however, has successfully reintegrated and
is now set to play a part in the club’s pursuit of domestic and continental
honors in the coming years.
