From Kiwi to Buccaneer: De Jong Targets League Glory for Pirates

Orlando Pirates’ latest recruit, Andre De Jong, has declared his
ambition to help the storied club reclaim the league title—a trophy that has
eluded them since the 2011/12 season.

The New Zealand international, signed from Stellenbosch FC, joins a Pirates
side currently leading the Betway Premiership at the midway point. He is
convinced the squad possesses the necessary talent and drive to end their
long championship drought.

In his first interview with the club, De Jong shared his dual objectives.
“Winning the league is a clear goal for everyone here,” he stated. “Being
top of the table at the break presents a great opportunity. We’ve used these
two weeks to push hard and improve our conditioning.”

Eager to make his mark, the forward outlined his personal targets: “I want
to contribute as much as possible. Winning the league is a major ambition,
not just for me but for the entire club. I also aim to score and create
goals, add creativity in the final third, and commit fully to the team’s
defensive work.”

He praised the existing setup at the Buccaneers, adding, “The club has a
strong, progressing culture and a solid defensive structure. My focus is
simply to give my all in every appearance and help the team win.”

As the season enters its decisive phase, De Jong’s arrival bolsters Pirates’
attacking depth, providing another key option in their pursuit of the
coveted league crown.
