Former Chiefs Star Suggests Position Change for Reeve Frosler Amid Right-Back Competition

With Dillan Solomons in strong form and new signing Thabiso Monyane
adding competition at right-back, a former Kaizer Chiefs favourite has
weighed in on where Reeve Frosler now fits in the squad.

Ex-Amakhosi goalkeeper William “Cool Cat” Shongwe believes that while
Frosler plays with undeniable heart, his shortcomings in defence mean the
club should consider redeploying him elsewhere on the pitch.

In an interview with PSLSA, Shongwe pointed to tactical and positional
concerns. “The other one is Reeve. Reeve had so much time. You know what,
they must just find him another place. He is a player who plays with his
whole heart. But he’s technically found wanting,” Shongwe stated. “I think
there’s something wrong with his tactical acumen, his positioning, and now
he gets sold out on the run, and he can’t recover. Each and every time he
plays, that right back position gets exposed.”

The Eswatini-born legend also called for clarity from the club’s management
regarding several other squad members. “Management needs to decide and ask
themselves, ‘Where did we go wrong?’ with some of these players that they
signed but haven’t touched the ball so far this season. You talk about
Bongani Sam, Shinga and Chislett. I thought Sam was an exceptional player,
but I don’t know what happened with him. That’s why we need explanations,”
Shongwe observed.

Frosler, 27, joined Chiefs from Bidvest Wits during the 2018/19 season and
has since made 163 appearances for the club, contributing two goals and 13
assists. However, this season his playing time has dwindled to just four
matches, with Solomons and Monyane establishing themselves as the preferred
options in his position.
